Hello there,
I’ve just come back from a writers’ conference in London, so there wasn’t a newsletter on Friday, and this one will be quick.
I like to think that the collective noun for writers should be a scribble, but having spent a few days in the company of other authors, I wonder if an overexcitement of authors might be better. Because when we get together, boy can we talk.
It’s what comes, I suspect, of spending too much time on our own.
But what a lovely bunch of people I met. It’s always wonderful when you meet someone successful and they turn out to be modest, generous and kind. The community of independent authors is a particularly good one, with so many people willing to share their knowledge to help others.
My head is still spinning with new ideas and I especially want to improve my own bookstore so that readers who want to support me, rather than a huge retailer, can buy all my books direct.
It’s not a bad store and it works, both for ebooks and paperbacks, but it could be better. If you want to try it, it’s here:
I was also inspired by US horror author David Viergutz who created Scaremail: a story delivered via letters in the post. I couldn’t help thinking of my own small story by email, Death at Blackingstone Rock. That was a fun project to create. I wouldn’t want to copy David, but could I come up with my own unique way to tell a story?
It’s something to think about, certainly.
In the meantime, on with the photos.

Something New - Reader of The Week
This is an idea I picked up from another author - I thought it would be nice to give it a try.
If you’d like the chance of a name check in the VIP Readers Club, simply fill in the form and I’ll pick a reader each week, in date order. These are the questions:
First name
Where you’re from - town/city and country

Favourite author (or 2)
Last book you read
Fun fact
Please don’t email the answers to me, but use the form instead. My inbox is almost always in a pickle, so I need the form to get this thing organised.
The form is here:
Signing Off
I’m almost ready to declare the rewrite of A Study in Stone finished, but I’m still considering all the feedback from my wonderful beta readers. More news on that soon, I hope. The next email should be on Friday, and I’ll aim to make it more of an essay.
Happy reading and take care,
Mikey
